On-Demand Subsetting: The PM-ESIP

The Passive Microwave Earth Science Information Partner project (PM-ESIP) provides science researchers and users with the capability to interactively customize and retrieve hydrologic datasets for use in process studies and regional and global climate studies.

The goal of the PM-ESIP is to provide a framework and a process for creating, supporting, and distributing both producer and customer defined datasets for the broader EOS science community, incorporating emerging technologies such as data-content-based search (data mining) and data production, gridding, and formatting on demand. PM-ESIP datasets will be important for researching long term natural and human-induced climate change ("global warming"), seasonal and interannual climate variability, regional assessments, and atmospheric process studies.

The PM-ESIP provides web-based access to interactive tools that can subset pre-generated datasets, generate new datasets on demand from lower-level global or regional data, extract coincident data from multiple datasets, and convert from swath to a variety of gridded map projections.
